One week until Christmas! If you’re like me, you’ve procrastinated and are not at all prepared. I still have so many gifts to buy, outfits to plan, and cookies to bake, but that’s all part of the fun. Also part of the holiday fun are the holiday traditions, new and old. Today I’m sharing some of mine if any of you need some inspiration to get into the holiday spirit!
Stuff Those Stockings. Instead of worrying about having a plethora of gifts ready for your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, best friend, agree to just do stockings instead and set a dollar limit. Enjoy the nostalgia of opening stockings on Christmas morning! If you need some inspiration for what to stuff in those stockings, check out my gift guides-most of the items are under $50! One trip to Target and you’re done!
Get Cozy In Christmas Eve Pajamas. Get yourself and partner (if you want) matching PJ sets! Every Christmas Eve, my mom used to gift my sister and I a new set of Christmas PJs. We always knew that it was coming, and we loved it! Now that I’m married and starting my own traditions with my husband, it’s something I plan to do every year.
Ride The Polar Express. By watching the movie that is! I started to feel the Christmas magic slipping in my college years, and to get it back, I would tuck myself into bed (in my annual Christmas PJs), turn on The Polar Express, and fall asleep feeling the excitement I used to as a little girl. The movie is all about losing and regaining the Christmas spirit, and it has become something I look forward to doing every year. After dinner with the family, even if my husband has gone to sleep, I’ll stay up on the couch to watch and keep my own little tradition.
Cut Your Own Tree. Go to a local tree farm and cut down your own tree. This is a tradition my husband and I started last year (our first year as a married couple) with a few of our best friends. We like to make a day out of it, getting hot cocoa and cider once we get there, and a cozy lunch after. You’ve got a week-there’s still time!
Get Charitable. Make donations in lieu of traditional gifts. Is there anyone on your list that you can never find the perfect gift for? Maybe they have everything they need, and they tell you as much, leaving you stumped on what to get them. Well gifting to others in their name is the perfect way to go. Over the years, we’ve purchased a goat for a farm overseas, donated to the White Helmets in Syria, and collected items from homeless teens’ wish lists. With all the excitement and gifting around the holidays, it’s so important that we remember those who may not be as fortunate.
What are some of your favorite holiday traditions? I’m always looking for new things to add to mine. Thank you so much for reading, and happy holidays!
