First off, hello! It’s been so long since I’ve been on my blog, and it feels so great to be back. Life has been challenging lately, for everyone I’m sure. We are all dealing with a pandemic, something almost none of us have ever experienced before. With all this extra downtime at home, I found myself being pulled back into my creative mind, especially when it comes to my blog. Over the coming weeks, I hope to continue to write posts, sharing content that can be comforting and inspiring in these times.
Today I’m sharing 5 ways to update your space on a budget! I know we are all spending a lot more time at home, so I wanted to share how I’ve made mine a little more pleasant to constantly be in. We also bought our first home within the last few months, so it’s all kinds of new around here!
5 Ways To Update Your Space On A Budget
Hang Curtains. I prefer neutral colors. Pairing white, cream, or beige curtains with a matte black rod gives a simple, classic and chic update. Once I hung ours up, the room was instantly transformed
Fresh Flowers. Popping a bunch of hydrangeas in a glass cylinder vase does so much for a room, whether it’s on the dining table, the coffee table, kitchen counter, or bedroom dresser. I love hydrangeas because they’re cheap ($6 for a beautifully bloomed bunch at Trader Joe’s) and with a little bit of TLC, they last for up to 10 days. Just be sure to give them fresh water daily, and trim the stems at a diagonal angle every few days to keep that fresh water flowing up the stems.
Throw Pillows and Blankets. This goes for living room, guest room or bedroom. Throw pillows and blankets are great, noncommittal way to change up the style of your home. I like to by plain white pillow inserts (Ikea and Amazon both have good, cheap options) and the search for cute pillow covers to stuff them again. I have found many cute options on Amazon, but if you’re a seamstress you could even make your own. Cozy throw blankets and cuddly dogs will complement those pillows perfectly.
Printable Wall Art. Recently I was shopping for wall art, and I was a little taken aback at how pricey it was. For a simple 18×24 framed print, I was looking at over $100. Not wanting to spend this much, I looked to other options. I found several Etsy shops of original artists selling digital downloads of their own prints, many for under $10! Then I took them to Walgreens to have them professionally printed, and ordered some matching frames on Amazon.
House Plants. Not only are plants good for our mental and physical health, but they add so much to a room. My favorite is a snake plant, as it is beautiful and needs minimal upkeep (I do not have a green thumb) and can be bought for a great price. Pair you plant with a stylish pot and stand to really upgrade your space.
I would love to know if you try out any of my ideas, and would also love to hear some of your own. As always thank you so much for reading. Stay healthy and safe!
